It was early in the morning on the first day of the week, while it was still dark. The foot race to the tomb is a lively but perplexing detail. What is the evangelist saying? Is this just an odd memory or is it symbolic? Is one disciple subordinated to the other by airing at the tomb first or by entering first? As Mary made her way down the dark road to the tomb, memories of better days in Galilee tried to pierce through the darkness, Ah, Galilee, Jesus mistaken1was popular then. Hope had taken root in her heart. No one ever knew exactly what to expect of Jesus, but clearly that all had higher hopes for Him than that He would be crucified as a traitor to Rome and a blasphemer to the Jew. Mary was startled to discover that it was empty.

After the women went to the tomb they were giving a message to go and give the disciples the message that He is alive. Mary told Peter and the other disciples “they have taken the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they have laid Him. On this Easter morning Mary Magdalene returned to the tomb. She found there two angels and one she did not recognize. He turned to her and said, woman why are you weeping? Who are you looking for? Mary did not recognize the one who had cast seven demons out of her, the one who had not condemned her, the one who was not afraid to be her friend... The bible described her as a great sinner.  Mary Magdalene stood outside the tomb crying as she saw Jesus standing, there but she did not realize that it was Jesus. At this point all Mary wants is for the Gardener to return her Lord.

Throughout Jesus’ life and especially through-out His ministry people have not recognize Him. He has been introduced throughout history, people have been told over, and over again who He was. The prophets introduce Him, they identify Him as the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world; He was the one who would come to saved people from their sin. John the Baptist Identify Him as the one who the Spirit of God descending like a dove, God Himself introduces Him by saying this is my beloved Son in whom I am well please; another time God says this is my beloved Son hear ye Him. Jesus identifies Himself on many different occasions. He says I am the door, I am the good shepherd, I am the vine, I am the way, the truth and the life, and I am the light of the world.

People still have question regarding His identity, mistaken identity: we often have mistaken Jesus to be someone other than who He is. Jesus says to us I am Jehovah -Rapha I am the Lord your healer, yet we have problem seeing Him as a healer. I am your exceeding great joy, but we have no joy, He says I am your savior, yet we are lost.

Maybe the reason why Jesus identity was mistaken then and now is because of unbelief. The disciples didn’t really believe that He would rise from the dead, they thought when Jesus yelled it is finish, He meant it literally, as far as they were concern it was finish, it was over. They went back to their old way of life, they went back to fishing. Unbelief stopped us from recognizing Jesus as well. We can believe God for the small stuff, but not for the big. The Bible says we are to “cast our cares on Him, because He cares for us.” He says that “we have not because we ask not; we ask and don’t receive, because we ask a miss.” He promises to meet our every need according to His riches in Glory.

The disciple did not recognize their friend, their savior, their Lord, Jesus told them who He was I and my Father are one, Jesus gave His disciples a test one day He ask them “who do men say that I am”? They said Moses, Elijah, or one of the other prophets, and then He asked them who do you say that I am? We must believe in order to recognize Jesus for who He is.

From the very beginning, the resurrection of Jesus was met by doubt and disbelief. It was blasphemous for the renegade Christians to claim that a crucified criminal was the messiah raised from the dead. In order for us to recognize who Jesus is it is by faith we believe God raised Christ from the dead. It is by faith that the darkness of grief and despair are removed from us. It is by faith that the darkness of sin and evil are erased from us. It is by faith that the darkness of unbelief and doubt are dislodged from us. It is by faith that we accept the light of Christ’s resurrection. Our is a faith that believes without seeing. A faith that believe without seeing the empty tomb

If we have faith to believe that Jesus is who He says He is, we will have no problem with rested in Jesus and receiving His promises without hesitation.
